Nationals 5, Cubs 4 (12 innings)

WP: Joey Eischen (2-0)
LP: Sergio Mitre (2-4)

After 26 straight converted save opportunities, Chad Cordero finally blew a save by giving up a two run homer to Aramis Ramirez in the ninth inning Sunday, but the Nationals won anyway.

The Nats led 2-0 for most of the game, but Ramirez' home run tied it at two in the ninth and sent the game to extra innings.

It looked like Washington sealed a win in the top of the 11th, scoring two runs on a Brad Wilkerson double to make it 4-2, but the Cubs tied it in the bottom half with a homer by former Oriole Jerry Hairston Jr. and an RBI double by Todd Hollandsworth.

Brian Schneider gave the Nats a lead they could keep by hitting a solo shot with two outs in the top of the 12th.

It was the Nationals 50th win, the fastest any team in franchise history has reached that point.
